nathan cordero
love documentary 2008paint, wood, raquet28 x 10 inches$280apparently no longer actually available throughjohansson projectsi am i love, love, love with oakland gallery johansson projects. kind of like this tennis(?) racket and i are both in love, love, love, with smokes. go to the gallery's flickr page. go! the websiteless artist featured here was included in a winter 2008 group show and, apparently, also works as a janitor. you can read a utilitarian interview with him here.
johnathan chapman
oil and ink on aged paper
10 x 15 inches
$60
available through boundlessgallery
brisitsh landscape artist johnathan chapman has a selection of $60 studies available at online shop boundless gallery which i am drawn to today, in part, thanks to the quickly descending crispy autumn air here. his more finished paintings have a contemporary flatness to them, likely attributable to his very recent 2006 art school graduation, but remain extremely traditional in subject matter, and will cost you $900. these studies are rougher around the edges, but in the very same way their ever so slightly aged, residential subject matter might be.

matt w. moore
navigate the cosmos
set of three indigo prints, edition of 100
17 x 12 inches each
$75
available for purchase on mwm graphics website
boston based designer and illustrator matt w. moore has some cool indigo prints for sale on his website. moore's commercial client list includes some major names, and, curiously, he is also responsible for editing an apparently rather defunct graffiti and sticker website called wallspankers. might be worth a click over to download the most recent sticker book - it's chock full of images you are encouraged to print and spread. speaking of downloads, the man is full of free goodies. here are computer desktops to download, but be warned these do include an intrusive plug for his website. below is one image from a mixed bag set of 20 6x9 inch black and white indigo prints, printed in an edition of 500, available for sale online for $28.

jana flynn
a time of trial and triumph
36 x 36 inches
mixed media
n/a available through the fine art adoption network
two gems today. first, the work of brooklyn based artist jana flynn. in the process of getting her mfa at parson's, jana pairs interests in the sciences of the mind and the earth to collage a myriad of scraps into beautiful, slightly surreal landscapes. her artist's statement notes she mixes "spiritual and philosophical ideologies to create miniature, unique abstractions of outdoor settings" and she states “it is not only the investigation that truly excites me, but construction as well. to mend, piece together, patch, cobble, cure, cultivate where nothing was before is an integral part of my process.” a show at johansson projects in oakland, ca this summer seems to have yielded her a number of sales and recent collages are selling from between $950 to $3,500. the above work is likely available through the fine art adoption network - a project by artist adam simon commissioned by art in general wherein artists place pieces up "for adoption" free of charge - paying only for transportation of the piece, and perhaps insurance. it is geared to collectors and organizations but there is absolutely nothing stopping you or i from writing a heartfelt adoption application and, potentially, taking a piece into our home - there are 23 pages of successful adoption stories! the below piece, titled "Dynamics of Glacial Advance and Retreat" is also available for sale the old fashioned way, for $975.
i've been resisting the urge to write this poster post. but here we are. these posters are questionable. i imagine the quality of reproductions is laughable. they give no credit to any artist for the images. but. they are $10 each! $10 for a big, colorful, fun 12 x 18 poster. $10! yes they are meaningless and ultimately will be disposed of. but if nothing else, maybe that means they would work as valuable tack ups in a space to liven it up until you find the right originals to take over.

david cowden

27.5 x 7.8 inches
£150
available for purchase on minigallery
i've spent the vast majority of my (hungover) saturday at work slipping myself into a world populated exclusively by rapidly scrolling sunsets, ocean waves, puppies, and flower arrangements. i'd say if anyone ever offers you the chance to actually live inside an affordable art website you should absolutely take them up on that offer and jump right in. i, being in the dour mood i am, have surfaced with the most depressing, noir inspired images i could find to share with you, courtesy of british artist david cowden. minigallery is actually a wisely designed sight with a powerful search engine that is remarkably unfrustrating - worth a browse if only to see how user friendly an affordable art sight can be if it puts some thought into the matter. below is a lithograph by the same artist for £25.

the enormous tiny art show is a unique bi-annual show at the nahcotta gallery in portsmith nh presenting very small scale original works of art by 45 different artists, mostly in the $200 to $300 range. there's nothing that has me screaming with joy, but the above work is a crispy and fresh scene. below is a very small (6 x 8) acrylic by leah giberson, an etsy star of an artist who has been making the blog rounds for a while now and who i reckon will keep on moving up.

because it is brilliant. and because would go so swimmingly well with the cuban print of a hippopotamus blowing out a candle that my sister gave to me last year. litzau is a graduate of a masters of fine arts program with a focus on printmaking who runs a small printmaking studio in ohio. his recent not-as-easily-for-sale work includes a number of these handsome royality on magnets you can rearrange to your liking.

rob pettit
tower with phones
ink on paper
13.5 x 12 inches
$25
available for sale in rob petit's etsy shop
recent school of the museum of fine arts graduate, rob pettit, has amassed a collection of well over five thousand cell phones according to an april article in the boston globe and confirmed by an april article in the boston weekly dig. his current work is all cell phones, all the time. while i would like to see some amount of critical discourse on his website regarding this obsession (it's precariously close to gimmicky without) the cell-phone based works available on his etsy shop are clever, well executed, and handsome - not to mention extremely affordable.
